3 Surprising Ways My Walking Pad Has Boosted My Life in Just 6 Months

About 6 months ago I pulled the trigger and got myself a walking pad. I already had my standing desk but I know I don’t get enough walking in each day. Especially living in Texas where our weather changes on a dime and likes to sway from the Sahara desert to North Pole.

Now I didn’t go all in and invest in a brand new one, I wanted to scour FB marketplace to see if I could find a used one in good condition. And after using it the past 6 months, here are some changes I have noticed.

1. It’s Made Me More Focused (Even Though That Sounds Crazy)

Yep, I didn’t expect this either! But as someone who gets easily distracted and struggles to sit still, I’ve found that a bit of movement sharpens my focus. Walking while I work has been an adjustment, sure, but the benefits have been huge. Plus, shoutout to Facebook Marketplace for helping me find this gem at a steal! For a multi-tasker like me, there’s nothing better than knowing I’m hitting my step goals while checking off my to-do list.

2. It’s Helped Me Slow Down (Weird, Right?)

This might seem backward, but because things like writing and drawing are a bit tougher to do while moving, my walking pad has helped me be more intentional and present. While my body is in motion, I’m not racing through tasks, which lets me focus better on the work I’m doing. I think this ties back to the focus boost in #1 too!

3. My Digestion and Mood Are Loving It

Living a sedentary life can feel exhausting, but adding some movement has been a real game changer. My digestion is better—more frequent, healthy bathroom trips without any… uh, surprises. And mood-wise, I’ve been feeling way less “meh.” It’s helped me feel more energized and positive, plus it’s an awesome way to show myself a little love and respect by adding more movement to my day.

Bonus Tips for Walking Pad Success:

  • Hack Your Step Tracking: I use an adjustable watchband on my Apple watch then wrap it around my ankle to track steps since my hands are busy with work.
  • Watch Out for Awkward Design Features: My walking pad from Facebook Marketplace has a pop-up bar that doesn’t lay flat, so I had to get used to the belt spacing to avoid ankle bumps. I am sure I could unscrew it but haha I haven’t had a chance to. This one is similar but the sidebars look like they pivot out of the way when the handlebar is laid flat.
  • Standing Desk Is a Must: If you plan to work while walking, you’ll need a standing desk—I got mine from Amazon, and it’s been a lifesaver.
  • Easy at Home: If you work in an office that has a standard desk or space constraints, consider using your walking pad at home while binge-watching Netflix! They’re compact and a lot more practical than a bulky treadmill.
